Four new sheepish originals are now at the Westport River Gallery. See two here, or click here for all four. The simplicity of the countryside, combined with earthen colors make the new works by M. Smith very enticing for home and office. Smith was born in South Africa and raised in Zimbabwe, he arrived in Canada in the late 1980s. After initially studying architecture, he attended the Salisbury School of Art, followed by in-depth studies with the UK's Michael Chase. His career continued as an award winning multinational art director/creative director, until he decided to move out into the country to paint full-time in 2003. "Moving out to the countryside in Eastern Ontario was what originally inspired me to begin painting an ever-growing series of atmospheric landscapes in acrylics, and now in oils as well. My intention has been to attempt to capture just some of the feeling and drama that rural living engenders - it’s quite special, and certainly awakens a new sense of awe and respect from one who has, up till relatively recently, largely been an urban dweller. " Each is gallery wrapped and 20x20.
