André Renoux was born in Oran, Algeria, in 1939, of French parents who were temporarily living there at that time. Renoux lived in Nice, France as a youth and got his art training at the Beaux Arts School of Art in Nice. When Renoux was about 25, he moved to Paris and his paintings immediately attracted the attention of collectors and gallery owners. Andre Renoux is collected worldwide. When he died in Paris in 2002, he was regarded as one of France's national treasures. The "father" of the Paris School of Urban Realism, the most credentialed Urban Realist (and one of the most respected in Europe), Renoux was known as the peintre-poete (painter-poet) for the beauty of his images. At home in many cities, he made Paris uniquely his own, capturing its history and soul, its sounds, smells, tastes, textures. Rue St. Victor (at right). The dizzying view down the steps of Rue Utrillo, where the mere mention of the name of that crazy painter is enough to give you the soul of an artist, with Paris at your feet. The limited edition, signed serigraphs shown here are both $125 each. Market value $600.
