French Landscapes & Villages by Caudron

Dr. Caudron's paintings are based on a perfect match of the diverse structures of motifs - through skies forcefully crushed to grounds that offer surprising perspectives - and, while the artist is wandering on the chromatic scale with enthralling boldness, there is nothing he dares not do.Such balance in his works allows the eye to travel nowhere else than on the painted surface. The balance of the bold color palette juxtaposed with the seemingly surreal perspective allows one to be immersed within the work itself, eliminating the notion of the two-dimensional surface. The subjects of the works stand on their own, supported by the innovative use of an old master knife technique combined with a saturated use of color in its purest form. The works themselves appear to be effortless, despite the fact that the works were achieved thanks to extreme rigor. Caudron is a man of intensity; while his primary profession is as a diabetes physician, his interests have also guided him to the titles of pilot, sailor, glider, husband, and, expressionist-impressionist artist. His passions in part stem from a love of character homes, “out of proportion” rooms, and reading. Caudron was born in France in 1947 and has exhibited for two decades. Provence Beauty by French Artist Dorie

Dominique Dorié was born in Versailles in 1958. At the age of sixteen he began working in the Louvre in a conservation capacity as a restorer of sculptures.Dorie enjoyed the opportunities his location presented him, most especially, the chance to study the many masterpieces hanging on the walls of the great museum. Although Dorié had little free time, he felt compelled to sketch. Nevertheless he had several small “exhibitions” of his own, by hanging his work in the evenings on the fences of the Church of St. Germain des Pres. 1977 marked the turning point for Dorié’s career. He won a scholarship offered by the city of Paris, which enabled Dominique Dorie to enroll in a night course in drawing. As his skills in that field improved, he developed a desire to use color and began to paint in oil. From 1974 on, Dorié had participated in a number of exhibitions in the towns surrounding Paris. He also had two one-man shows in Paris, and  Strasbourg. 

Enjoy the Lavender Fields by S. Guccione

Passion is a vital underpinning of any good artist. Brazilian born S. Guccione went to college and graduated with degrees in journalism and art in Sao Paulo.“At the age of 25 I moved to Rome, where I had the opportunity to meet the most wonderful artists and attend many workshops and classes where I learned to work with different styles and mediums. I learned a lot from my mentor Giorgio Michetti who passed away in 2019 at the age 105. I truly enjoy working with oils, and my favorite style is impressionism. Equestrian is the theme that really brings back wonderful memories of my childhood in Brazil where I rode as well and raised horses.”Her mentor was born in Viareggio, Italy, in 1912. At 17 he had his first exhibit. His works add up more than 2000 paintings which have been exhibited in Italy, Switzerland & Austria. The Italian artist who lived through two wars, one of them as a soldier, also suffered the loss of two wives. He met Pablo Picasso in Nice and has opened his art to other techniques such as painted pants and a car. A man who at his long age has understood that the most important thing is to share knowledge and passion.

Delightful Seine Original by Kaprielian

Born in France in 1959, Kaprielian has become a Chevalier and an Associated Member of the ART section of the International Academy of Greci-Marino (Italy). He can be classified as a new generation of impressionist painters painting landscapes of the Ile-de-France, Normandy, Brittany and Provence, the riverbanks of Seine through all seasons. His works have been exhibited in respectable galleries in France as well as America. His works became part of the collection of the Royal family of Morocco. He has been painting since 22. Country Houses by Lelia Pissarro

Lelia Pissarro (French, B. 1963), Oil on paper, signed lower right and dated 2005. Presented with a linen fillet. and framed in a carved and antiqued finished wood frame.. 7 1/4"H x 12"W. Framed: 17 1/4"H x 22"W Lelia was born in 1963, and has painted since age four, having been educated by her grandfather, Paulemile and her father, Claude Pissarro. Following an 18 month break from painting one simple image captured her imagination; a photograph taken in the 1950s by her grandfather, Paulemile Pissarro, of two houses on a road under snow in Clecy in Suisse Normandy, where Lelia had spent the first 11 years of her life. Lelia started to paint this scene over and over, exploring the almost endless possibilities of variation in color and light. It was not her intention to paint a series, but this is what it became. In contrast to the Impressionists who were mainly concerned with capturing one subject in changing atmospheres and lights, something that could only be achieved by painting outdoors, she has created all the variations of the one subject in her studio and through her own imagination. For this reason, she is adamant that there should be no unnecessary or pretentious comparison of the work in this exhibition with the many series painted by Monet or her great grandfather, Camille Pissarro.

Seaside Gouache by Paulemile Pissarro

Seaside original by French artist Paulémile Pissarro (1884-1972), Gouache landscape on paper, Matted in a gilt finished frame and glazed. 8 3/4"H x 11 3/4"W; Frame: 17 1/2"H x 20 1/2"W. Paulémile, Camille Pissarro's youngest son, was born in Eragn in 1884. He was bought up in the artistic environment of the family home there and, encouraged by his father, began drawing at an early age. His godfather was Claude Monet who became his teacher and close friend, particularly after Camille's death in 1903. In 1905, he exhibited at the  Salon des Independants  for the first time, showing an impressionist landscape entitled Bords de l'Epte á Eragny, and although his father had supported his desire to be an artist, his mother was eager for him to learn a more practical trade. In 1908, he put aside his artistic pursuits and worked as an automobile mechanic and test-driver, and then as a lace and textile designer, thus allowing him a little time to paint. While he was still working at the lace factory his brother Lucien, who lived in London, asked him to send over some watercolors, and the sale of these encouraged him to leave the factory and dedicate himself to painting.

Westport: Onion Center to Artists' Community

Shown here is a Saugatuck Shores in Westport CT by French artist Mo Gart. Colonists settled along the Saugatuck River as early as 1639. In 1780 George Washington visited the Marvin Tavern in Westport. Westport was officially incorporated as a town in 1835, with land taken from Fairfield, Weston, and Norwalk. For many decades after that, Westport was a prosperous agricultural community and distinguished itself as the nation’s leading onion-growing center. After the turn of the century, Westport gained the reputation as an artist & writers’ colony, and cultural center. It was the home of Norman Rockwell’s Famous Artists School, also the Famous Writers School. Although Westport still retains its cultural roots, the town is no longer an artist’s colony. Florals Define Charming Originals by Courchia

New original oils on canvasboard. The interplay of light and shadows is not by accident in the works by French artist Jean-Paul Courchia. And the basic construction of many famous works of art is also not by accident. The physician-lecturer-artist’s oil on canvas are displayed in Marseille in the famous Provencal Gallery Jouvène, which Van Gogh and Cezanne called home for their art work. Her Highness, Queen Paola of Belgium and Madame Nobutaka Shinomiya, wife of the Consul of Japan in Marseille, are collectors of his work. Dr. Courchia is a physician of endocrinology & metabolic diseases, and fascinated by science, art, medicine, perceptions, colors, shadows and light.

Ukrainian born G'Ma's Painting to Mrs. Roosevelt

Liza was born in Nova Kraruka, Ukraine, and had six children with her husband before immigrating to the U.S. in 1905. One of those children was Arthur who along with his wife Anne went on to become important art collectors based in NYC. Another was with Mostly Mozart for many years, and his wife with the famous Martha Graham School of Contemporary Dance studio. Liza began painting very late in life at 75 relieve the pains of arthritis in her fingers. Her use of bright colors and playful pastoral imagery garnered her many fans, including the owners of Gallery Sixty Two in NYC, where she had an exhibition in the early 1950s. Liza died in 1955 just shortly after a major highlight in her painting career; the opportunity to present former First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt (seen at left with the artist) one of her originals in person at the U.N. Glass prints from originals are exclusively available at the Westport River Gallery.

Sunny Day in France by Jean Francois Bourgeat

New picture from French Impressionist Jean Francois Bourgeat at Westport River Gallery. Born in Paris in 1962, Jean-Francois Bourgeat is a French landscape artist whose background is in art 'graphiques' immediately attracted him to the Impressionist school of painting. He tutored under the great French Landscape Artists, then took his easel to Nature. He paints on location and captures the changing light and reflections in the water along the Seine. His boats and landscapes typify the splendor of lie de France, du Bretagne, and d'Alsace in the south of France. The Beauty of Colourful Country Barns by Zack

Country barns afoot in dramatic colors against a moody sky. This original is 24x36.  A fall-like hue embraces rustic and maybe forgotten New England and Northeast barns. The foundation of G. Zack’s artistic interests can be distilled down to his love of color. In the early days of his stained glass work, masterful use of color was central in his designs. From sparse, contemporary, Mondrian-style compositions to lush, figurative installations, color always took center stage. His love of color lead him to hot glass, which allowed him to blend colors in ways that flat, cold glass techniques could not. Zack’s current work with acrylics presents yet another opportunity for Zack to compose pieces rich with contrasts of light and dark, texture, pattern and mood.

Some say HM Saffer has a unique perspective of nature. When he looks at woods, he looks into the woods. He interprets nature with all his senses, and allows the viewer to see through new visual parameters. H.M. Saffer was born in Philadelphia in 1942. Colorful, Charming and Enticing Scapes

This colorful original is by a an artist who recently passed away. It is gallery wrapped and 40x30. The late Afremov was born in Vitebsk, Belarus is a Russian–Israeli modern impressionistic artist who worked mainly with a palette knife and oils. He developed his own unique technique and style which is unmistakable and cannot be confused with other artists. His subjects included international cities, historic pathways, canals, bright cityscapes and nighttime venues.

New creation at Westport River Gallery by award-winning Asian-American artist J. Okumura. This is 48x60. The ultimate fall picture. J. Okumura grew up in Philadelphia and has been creating art for over 15 years. She attended Syracuse University in addition to receiving her MFA from Boston University. She has a strong comprehensive knowledge of the Art Market: Modern and Contemporary Art with diverse and extensive Fine Art experiences such as Operations Manager, Fine Art Consultant, Design Associate, Adjunct Educator at Museum of Fine Arts, Boston and currently sits on the board as co VP and founding Exhibition Chair for National Association of Women Artists, Inc. Mass. Her use of color and creative texture lend harmoniously from the natural world and her heritage of both Eastern and Western influences. She derives inspiration for her oil and acrylic paintings of a wide variety of subjects, which she hopes conveys a sense of motion and evoke a wide range of emotions.

Reflections of Rings End Bridge in Darien CT

The lovely Rings End bridge in Darien, CT by Sergey Stepanenko, born in Russia in 1956. He graduated from Fine Art College in Frunze, Kyrgyzstan, receiving a Bachelors in Fine Art. This original oil is 24x36. In the US his murals and fine art works adorn some of the finest homes, as well as several Cruise Ships of Celebrity Cruise Line & Royal Caribbean Cruise Line. Some of his well-known clients include Keith Richards, the Kennedys, Ann Eisenhower and Princess Jahara. His paintings are in private collections in the USA, Russia, Ukraine, Greece, Serbia, India, Panama, Japan, Germany, France & Egypt. In 1930 the bridge was reconstructed of stone and is presently called Ring's End Bridge. French artist Poumelin's art is expressed in his music as an accomplished guitarist. His landscapes, Venetian seascapes, still lifes, and his other paintings are filled with a spiritual exercise…filled with powerful harmonies and magic reality, and sensitive serenity. He remains faithful to the motif. A nature lover, especially of his native Provence, Poumelin draws inspiration from the reflection of nature. York's Endearing Countryside Scenes

New works are on display at the Westport River Gallery from J. York, including these two oil paintings. At left, the cows are 18x22, and the girl and rooster is 11x14. York has been an illustrator for thirty years, and has worked for many book publishers including Ballantine, Berkley, Dorchester, Harlequin and Zebra. For many years she worked in oils, but her introduction to the digital medium proved to be the start of a love affair that continues to this day. She has also continued to create works of fine art in oils. Her paintings have been shown in NY, Scottsdale AZ., Atlanta GA. and now Westport. Among the many public and private collections that display her work, she is proud to include the R. W. Norton Art Foundation of Shreveport, LA.

Charles Gehm's Delightful Countryside Originals

Several original oils by the late Charles Gehm of Connecticut include this darling image of turkeys on display at the Westport River Gallery. He also did a series of limited edition Gone With The Wind prints and Grimm's Fairy Tales plates, and posters for the films Barry Lyndon, The Island, The River, The Betsey, and Death on the Nile. In 2002, The board of the NYSE selected him to create their annual Christmas card. Also a fine artist, he received numerous awards, and his oil paintings have been shown in galleries in NY, AZ., OH, MA. and CT. The turkeys are 22x36, and the gazebo is 30x24.

Autumn Colors Reflected in Olaf's Originals

Te lovely Angel of the Waters, at the Bethesda Fountain in Central Park NYC. Its among the largest fountains in NY, 26 feet by 96 wide. It was the only sculpture to have been commissioned as a part of Central Park's original design. This neoclassical sculpture features an 8-foot bronze angel who stands above four small cherubim representing health, purity, temperance and peace. The picture is 30x40, and oil on canvas. Angel of the Waters was designed by Emma Stebbins in 1868 and dedicated in 1873, at which point she became the first woman to receive commission for a major work of art in the city of NY. Dorie's French Landscapes and Seascapes

   French master artist Dominique Dorie's artistic focus is Provence and its nuances. He is at home with fields of lavender and red poppies, to small inlets filled with sea grass and colorful boats. He often paints lighthouses, flowering apple trees, hilltop villages, and even relaxing, serene waterways. Like many French artists he also signs the back of the picture, notes its size in centimeters, and the subject. He won a scholarship offered by the city of Paris, which enabled Dorie to enroll in a night course for drawing. He was awarded the Prix du Salon in the latter exhibit; In 1984 & 1985 he exhibited in the prestigious Salon d'Automne; In 1986 he won the Medaille d'Or at an exhibition in Deauville; He has since become one of the most highly regarded painters of his time and is listed in the prestigious international Benezit Encyclopedia, 2000 Edition. Flamingos and Riverside Villages by Estivalet

New art is on the way to the Westport River Gallery from Elisabeth Estivalet in France. A native of Poland, Estivalet fell in love with Provence when she settled there in the late 1970's. Though Estivalet has degrees in both Economics and Philosophy, the countryside of Provence elicited from her a natural artistic talent, and she instinctively embarked on a passionate and lifelong career as an artist. Painting solely with a palette knife, Elisabeth Estivalet taught herself to master the techniques of color management, perspective and composition. See Pinterest for all works. Soft Art Genre of French Gold Medalist Zarou

Several signed lithos are available by Zarou. The well known French artist was born in Gassin (1930), a small village near Saint-Tropez. His childhood was surrounded with French Art Culture. Following the footsteps of his father, he made his first exhibition (and sale) at age 12. His career started with numerous individual exhibitions throughout France, including Cannes, Nice & Lyon. He exhibited in famous art galleries in Geneva, and Stockholm. He has also made illustrations for books. In 1971, the city of Paris awarded Zarou the Silver Medal for his distinguished work, and in 1980 he was honored with the highest award "the Gold Medal of Honor." He is Commander of the French Artists society order. Since 1976, he has the privilege to appear in the two main paintings directories of well known world Artists, the "Benezit" and the "Mayer."

Central Park by the late Bogomir Bogdanovic

Originals by the late Bogomir Bogdanovic (1923-2011) consist of breathtaking landscapes dotted with brightly-clad people pursuing their daily activities. He was especially proud of his award winning canvases of NY’s Central Park and rural scenes in and about Warwick, NY, and neighboring Sussex County, NJ. I paint everything, he used to say, but not abstractions. He preferred his art to be recognizable; it's an amazing experience to watch a painting reveal itself, be it on paper or canvas. He very much enjoyed painting on location and rarely used photographs unless he had taken them himself. For several decades, he was a familiar sight, smoking his cigar and mixing his paints along the local highways and byways. Despite occasionally bad weather, he was known to endure many long hours in snow and ice waiting to capture his subject in just the right light. Insightful Works by Urban Landscapist J. Bye

From an early age, J. Bye he showed a talent for rendering still lives and landscapes. Because visual communication always interested him, he decided to pursue art after graduating high school. His medium is both oils and acrylics, depending on the image, style, and time. He entered the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) for his undergraduate studies, where he discovered his passion for the human figure. he spent a year in Rome, through RISD's European Honors Program where he studied classical art and architecture. After RISD, he continued with his graduate studies at the NY Academy of Figurative Art. His formal education exposed him further to the works of artists like Matisse, Bonnard and Lucian Freud, whose styles influence his work.

Sailing with French artist Yolande Ardissone

Yolande Ardissone left Normandy at 17 to study at the Ecole des Arts Appliques in Paris. Two years later she transferred to the Ecole des Beaux-Arts* and studied in the atelier of Unterstellar. In 1953 she was inducted into the Salon d’Automne. Wally Findlay Galleries began representing Ardissone in 1957, hosting her first one-woman show in the U.S. Ardissone has won numerous awards due to the lively sensitivity of her paintings and her firm and balanced compositions. Her art is painted with a mature technique, forcefully, with textured paint radiating a natural and joyful dynamism. Ardissone's painting have a lot in common with the Fauves. Shadow Play Reflects Courchia's New French Art

Jean-Paul Courchia is a highly successful painter both in Europe and America. His oils were displayed in Marseille in the famous Provençal Gallery Jouvène, which Van Gogh and Cezanne called home for their artwork. Her Highness Queen Paola of Belgium, the wife of the Consul of Japan in Marseille, and the president of the National Arts Club in NY, are collectors of his work. Courchia is also a unique speaker, able to explain through a simple approach the way we see art. He is an MD and a renowned artist painter. He splits his life among his office, studio and the dept.ophthalmology where his two passions merge: he works on the relationship between art and the brain by analyzing eye’s movements. Bustling and Abstract Cityscape by Eugenio

New York City and many other cityscapes are key areas for Eugenio. Eugenio was born in Tacna, Peru, and is one of the most promising artists in Peru. He studied art at Escuela Superior de Bellas Artes de Tacna graduating with high honors and already has held more than 30 exhibitions. His work has brought respectable attention having had his art displayed at the U.S. Embassy in Peru and prestigious saloons Banco Continental and Municipalidad de Tacna. Beautiful Blossoming Art of Diane Monet

Diane Monet’s gardens have blossomed all around the Westport River Gallery, in a variety of shades, sizes and colors. Alexanre Monet -- Diane grandfather -- moved to the United States from Paris in 1887 at the age of 24, working as a chef and sign-painter. He was always proud to note that he was a relative of Claude Monet. She paints all day - sometimes losing herself into the evening - and is often found painting in the dark after the sun sets. Her work is recognized for its vivid colors, luminosity and depth. Her work is done in oil on canvas, and the look that she desires requires the application of many layers, so her work is quite time-intensive. Sun Dappled Greek Islands by France's Kerfily

Kerfily creates enticing images through bold palettes and captivating compositions. Born and raised in Normandy, he showed an early artistic talent demonstrating his ability to create compositions with a unique freshness. He was discovered at the age of 25 in the artistic headquarter of Montmartre, where he had his first exhibit at the prestigious Salon de Paris. Inspired by the Mediterranean, South of France, Corsica & Greece, his enthusiasm is evident in his windswept seascapes and sun-dappled villages. He has received a Silver and Gold Medal from France. His work is included in collections worldwide including Musee d'Art Modern de Bocham and the Grand Palais a Paris. Capturing the Dramatic Power of NYC Bridges

New England born J. Bye captures the elusive complexity many artists miss, from the decaying solo apartment bldg in Brooklyn, to the infrastructure of NYC's Queensboro Bridge, which sees over 180,000 cars day and at which the Batman movie The Dark Knight Rises was filmed in part. The power and immensity are captured in a contrasting and beautiful blend of colors, reflection, movement and power. “The development of a work of art is what interests me most as an artist. What this entails is not just painting one interpretation of my subject, but expressing reactions towards it at different periods of time. The painting becomes a record of a journey, revealing layer upon layer of my exploration through spontaneous brushwork. The goal with which I approach a new painting changes often dramatically in the course of the work's creation. Pissarro: Walking Among the Rhododendrons

Hugues Claude Pissarro, father of lelia Pissaro, is the grandson of the Impressionist painter Camille Pissarro (at left) and son of Paulemile Pissarro. Impressionist Creations by Lelia Pissarro

Shown here are two original oils by famed artist Lelia Pissarro. Lelia has exhibited in many cities in France, as well as in Israel, Switzerland, New York, Boston, and London. Lelia has formed L'Atelier, a group of French artists who meet regularly to work together. For a short time, she also taught painting in Paris. Lelia Pissarro is the fourth generation of a family of artists. Her father is the artist H. Claude Pissarro and her grandfather was Paulemile Pissarro, the youngest son of the impressionist painter Camille Pissarro. Leila's early years were spent with her grandparents in Normandy and she exhibited her first painting at age 11 at La jeune peinture in Paris.

Eugenio's Luminous Cityscape Reflections

Cities are exciting places full of sights, sounds and even smells from eateries and pastry shops. Peruvian artist Eugenio paints urban scenes in which the people within the painting seem somewhat blurred compared to the cityscape. His compositions are filled with luminous touches of vivid color that reflect the artists fascination towards city life. Eugenio studied at the Beaux-Arts Superior School of Tacna, where he graduated with high honors in painting. He has also achieved superior studies at l’École des beaux-arts in Lima, Peru. Westport River Gallery has examples of both his more, and less, defined images of cities, including Times Square. Sizes range from 20x24 to 30x40. This picture has been sold.

He captures the movement of water, as well as the freshness and clarity of sunlight, which seems to glisten on his surfaces. The Mysterious Forest Insights by HM Saffer

 

Award winning and unique artist HM Saffer has just sent the Westport River Gallery several new vibrant works on canvas and board. This oil on board is about 16x48, great for hanging over a sofa or mantle. In 1965, he went to Paris to take economics classes, but wound up becoming a musician with Hugues Aufray, Jacques Brel and Charles Aznavour. HM Saffer was hired by Barclay Records as a producer and had several hits during the late 1960s During this time he also was chef/owner of two restaurants in Paris and later a third in Ibiza, Spain. Definitely Not Your Traditional Line Dancing

 

Who comes up with a title such as Line Dancing for laundry dancing on the line? Artist Mike Smith. This unique composition is 12x48 and can brighten up any room in home or office (or large yacht) The simplicity of the countryside, combined with earthen colors make the new works by M. Smith very enticing for home and office. Smith was born in South Africa and raised in Zimbabwe, and later moved to Canada in the late 1980s. His career continued as an award winning multinational art director/creative director, until he decided to move out into the country to paint full-time in 2003. Click for others.
