In 1965, he went to Paris to take economics classes, but wound up becoming a musician with Hugues Aufray, Jacques Brel and Charles Aznavour. HM Saffer was hired by Barclay Records as a producer and had several hits during the late 1960s During this time he also was chef/owner of two restaurants in Paris and later a third in Ibiza, Spain. New creation at Westport River Gallery by award-winning Asian-American artist J. Okumura. This is 48x60. The ultimate fall picture. J. Okumura grew up in Philadelphia and has been creating art for over 15 years. She attended Syracuse University in addition to receiving her MFA from Boston University. She has a strong comprehensive knowledge of the Art Market: Modern and Contemporary Art with diverse and extensive Fine Art experiences such as Operations Manager, Fine Art Consultant, Design Associate, Adjunct Educator at Museum of Fine Arts, Boston and currently sits on the board as co VP and founding Exhibition Chair for National Association of Women Artists, Inc. Mass. Her use of color and creative texture lend harmoniously from the natural world and her heritage of both Eastern and Western influences. She derives inspiration for her oil and acrylic paintings of a wide variety of subjects, which she hopes conveys a sense of motion and evoke a wide range of emotions.

However, all during this era he never stopped painting and exhibiting. He took classes at L’Ecole des Beaux Arts in Paris and had exhibits in Paris and Brussels before returning to the U.S. in 1970. Japanese Sumi-E Originals Available by Saffer

A collection of Sumi-E paintings and oils from HM Saffer, which date back to the 1980s, is being prepped for a a display in the coming months. Here is one example, called Wind and Sea. Sumi-Eis an ancient Japanese traditional art form literally meaning ink (sumi), and (E) meaning painting. Sumi-e requires very simple materials; black ink, paper, a brush and water to create unique and distinctive works of art. A single color of ink can suggest many different shades and it is the dynamic quality of strokes that produce the characteristic style of sumi-e. Click to see others by Saffer.
