SnowPeople? "Painting takes the ideas that are unable to be bound by words and I re-create them in my own expression through paint, boards, and beeswax. My oils and occasional mixed media paintings are both whimsical and classical. I engage my surroundings and subjects to include the personalities of local farm animals, coastal beach scenes, landscapes, and the not to be forgotten depictions of SnowPeople, immortalizing iconic places and historical figures. Implementing all kinds of unconventional tools to create with, enhances the textures that give life to my paintings. It is my goal for the viewer to have a story unfold before them, invoking joy, a positive feeling, or to bring forward a memory that was tucked away in the back of their mind."

Enjoy the Lavender Fields by S. Guccione

Passion is a vital underpinning of any good artist. Brazilian born S. Guccione went to college and graduated with degrees in journalism and art in Sao Paulo.“At the age of 25 I moved to Rome, where I had the opportunity to meet the most wonderful artists and attend many workshops and classes where I learned to work with different styles and mediums. I learned a lot from my mentor Giorgio Michetti who passed away in 2019 at the age 105. I truly enjoy working with oils, and my favorite style is impressionism. Equestrian is the theme that really brings back wonderful memories of my childhood in Brazil where I rode as well and raised horses.”Her mentor was born in Viareggio, Italy, in 1912. At 17 he had his first exhibit. His works add up more than 2000 paintings which have been exhibited in Italy, Switzerland & Austria. The Italian artist who lived through two wars, one of them as a soldier, also suffered the loss of two wives. He met Pablo Picasso in Nice and has opened his art to other techniques such as painted pants and a car. A man who at his long age has understood that the most important thing is to share knowledge and passion.

Early Art by Noted French Artist Jacques Eitel

French artist Jacques Eitel has a unique, soft style that evokes an enticing, almost Camelot feeling. Edges are soft, colors are soft, and the dreamy landscapes are almost playful. His oils on canvas are  inspired by the lush French landscape, the seaside, and buildings that seem tio have soft edges. Born in Paris in 1926, Eitel studied at L’Ecole de Beaux Arts in the studio of portrait and landscape painter Eugene Narbonne. Jacques Eitel has exhibited regularly throughout Europe and the Unioted States. His work has been included in the prestigious Salon d’Autumne and the Salon des Independants; he had his first solo show at the Galerie Raffy in 1957 and won the Prix de Montmartre. He also goes by the name Jacques Eitelwein. His paintings are in the collections of the French state, the City of Paris, and in numerous private worldwide collections. His work is also in the following museums: Musee de la Marine, Musee Etat Francais in Paris, Musee de St. Cyprien, Musee Chapelle Saint Colomban.

Enjoying the Unique Artistic Style of HM Saffer

Award winning and unique artist HM Saffer has just sent the Westport River Gallery several new vibrant works on canvas and board. In 1965, he went to Paris to take economics classes, but wound up becoming a musician with Hugues Aufray, Jacques Brel and Charles Aznavour. HM Saffer was hired by Barclay Records as a producer and had several hits during the late 1960s During this time he also was chef/owner of two restaurants in Paris and later a third in Ibiza, Spain. However, all during this era he never stopped painting and exhibiting. He took classes at L’Ecole des Beaux Arts in Paris and had exhibits in Paris and Brussels before returning to the U.S. in 1970. H.M. started his music career with Warner Brothers where he co-wrote the international hit song “Look What They Done To My Song Ma” recorded by pop star Melanie. While at Warner Brothers he painted a 40-foot mural in their Madison Ave. headquarters.

Sunny Day in France by Jean Francois Bourgeat

New picture from French Impressionist Jean Francois Bourgeat at Westport River Gallery. Born in Paris in 1962, Jean-Francois Bourgeat is a French landscape artist whose background is in art 'graphiques' immediately attracted him to the Impressionist school of painting. He tutored under the great French Landscape Artists, then took his easel to Nature. He paints on location and captures the changing light and reflections in the water along the Seine. His boats and landscapes typify the splendor of lie de France, du Bretagne, and d'Alsace in the south of France. The Beauty of Colourful Country Barns by Zack

Country barns afoot in dramatic colors against a moody sky. This original is 24x36.  A fall-like hue embraces rustic and maybe forgotten New England and Northeast barns. The foundation of G. Zack’s artistic interests can be distilled down to his love of color. In the early days of his stained glass work, masterful use of color was central in his designs. From sparse, contemporary, Mondrian-style compositions to lush, figurative installations, color always took center stage. His love of color lead him to hot glass, which allowed him to blend colors in ways that flat, cold glass techniques could not. Zack’s current work with acrylics presents yet another opportunity for Zack to compose pieces rich with contrasts of light and dark, texture, pattern and mood. 

Jean Pierre Dubord's Impressions of Normandy

The delicate poetic strain in his paintings has been influenced by the Impressionists. There is a very personal touch as well, however, for as one critic remarked, "Dubord is guided solely by his heart and emotions." Westport River Gallery is pleased to offer his works. Jean Pierre Dubord was born in Rouen, France in l949. Although that city remains his favorite subject, he often paints the street scenes of Paris, the Normandy countryside, the beaches of Deauville and the vistas along the Seine. He infuses his work with the subtleties of light and color unique to each season and locale. A multitude of first place and gold medal awards have been won by Jean Pierre Dubord: First Prize of Ville de Canteleu, l982; Gold Medal of Ville de Reuil Malmelson, l985; and the Prize of Conseil General Salon de Pontoise in l985, to name only a few

Saffer's Reflective and Colourful Creations

Some say HM Saffer has a unique perspective of nature. When he looks at woods, he looks into the woods. He interprets nature with all his senses, and allows the viewer to see through new visual parameters. H.M. Saffer was born in Philadelphia in 1942. After graduating from Temple Univ. in 1965, he went to Paris to take economics classes, but wound up becoming a musician with Hugues Aufray, Jacques Brel and Charles Aznavour. Plan to Fall into Fall with Okumura

New creation at Westport River Gallery by award-winning Asian-American artist J. Okumura. This is 48x60. The ultimate fall picture. J. Okumura grew up in Philadelphia and has been creating art for over 15 years. She attended Syracuse University in addition to receiving her MFA from Boston University. She has a strong comprehensive knowledge of the Art Market: Modern and Contemporary Art with diverse and extensive Fine Art experiences such as Operations Manager, Fine Art Consultant, Design Associate, Adjunct Educator at Museum of Fine Arts, Boston and currently sits on the board as co VP and founding Exhibition Chair for National Association of Women Artists, Inc. Mass. Her use of color and creative texture lend harmoniously from the natural world and her heritage of both Eastern and Western influences. She derives inspiration for her oil and acrylic paintings of a wide variety of subjects, which she hopes conveys a sense of motion and evoke a wide range of emotions.

Reflections of Rings End Bridge in Darien CT

The lovely Rings End bridge in Darien, CT by Sergey Stepanenko, born in Russia in 1956. He graduated from Fine Art College in Frunze, Kyrgyzstan, receiving a Bachelors in Fine Art. This original oil is 24x36. In the US his murals and fine art works adorn some of the finest homes, as well as several Cruise Ships of Celebrity Cruise Line & Royal Caribbean Cruise Line. Some of his well-known clients include Keith Richards, the Kennedys, Ann Eisenhower and Princess Jahara. His paintings are in private collections in the USA, Russia, Ukraine, Greece, Serbia, India, Panama, Japan, Germany, France & Egypt. In 1930 the bridge was reconstructed of stone and is presently called Ring's End Bridge. This area ceased being the "center" of Darien in 1848 when the railroad was constructed through Darien and the center became the present location. Click for more info.

York's Endearing Countryside Scenes

New works are on display at the Westport River Gallery from J. York, including these two oil paintings. At left, the cows are 18x22, and the girl and rooster is 11x14. York has been an illustrator for thirty years, and has worked for many book publishers including Ballantine, Berkley, Dorchester, Harlequin and Zebra. For many years she worked in oils, but her introduction to the digital medium proved to be the start of a love affair that continues to this day. She has also continued to create works of fine art in oils. Her paintings have been shown in NY, Scottsdale AZ., Atlanta GA. and now Westport. Among the many public and private collections that display her work, she is proud to include the R. W. Norton Art Foundation of Shreveport, LA.

Charles Gehm's Delightful Countryside Originals

Several original oils by the late Charles Gehm of Connecticut include this darling image of turkeys on display at the Westport River Gallery. He also did a series of limited edition Gone With The Wind prints and Grimm's Fairy Tales plates, and posters for the films Barry Lyndon, The Island, The River, The Betsey, and Death on the Nile. In 2002, The board of the NYSE selected him to create their annual Christmas card. Also a fine artist, he received numerous awards, and his oil paintings have been shown in galleries in NY, AZ., OH, MA. and CT. The turkeys are 22x36, and the gazebo is 30x24.

Bond's Reverse Glass Art "Olde Train Winter"

Fresh on the market is an original reverse glass painting (right) by the late Folk Artist Milton Bond. For many years the noted artist lived in nearby Stratford, CT. Milton Bond's personal craft is the medium of reverse glass painting, working in a mirror world in the fine detail of acrylic, ink, and metallic foil, giving a three dimensional luminosity to the exposed glass side when exhibited. The medium was first introduced to him 32 years ago by his beloved sister Mildred, a lover of the arts. In the last 45 years, he has produced over 1,500 paintings, and been featured at the Museum of American Folk Art, NYC; the Wadsworth Atheneum, Hartford, the Lyman Allyn Museum, New London; the Grand Palais, Paris; and the John Judkyn Museum of American Art, in Bath, England; and the NY State Historical Association, in Cooperstown, NY. Definitely Not Your Traditional Line Dancing

 

Who comes up with a title such as Line Dancing for laundry dancing on the line? Artist Mike Smith. This unique composition is 12x48 and can brighten up any room in home or office (or large yacht) The simplicity of the countryside, combined with earthen colors make the new works by M. Smith very enticing for home and office. Smith was born in South Africa and raised in Zimbabwe, and later moved to Canada in the late 1980s. His career continued as an award winning multinational art director/creative director, until he decided to move out into the country to paint full-time in 2003. Click for others.

Simple Countryside Scenes by Ted Jeremenko

Internationally collected folk artist Ted Jeremenko was born in Yugoslavia in 1938. At 12, Ted and his family moved to Philadelphia. In 1962, Ted moved to NYC, where he began a career in the banking and computer industries. While his job satisfied many of his interests, he felt the need to get involved in something creative. Combined with his interest in art and the visual beauty he discovered on his early visits to the eastern tip of Long Island, Ted began painting in the early 1970’s. “I try to use color to define light and form.”  From sunrises to sunsets, calm, clear moonlit evenings to foreboding skies, we respond on an emotional level to a moment captured in eternity. Three signed and numbered serigraphs are available, including these two.

CT-Born American Impressionist Rediscovered

A new upcoming exclusive exhibit at the Westport River Gallery depicts Will Hutchins’ personal vision of his travels throug the Northeast & Italy — from Little Deer Isle to the Venetian Lagoon. Born in 1878, in Colchester, CT, Hutchins was the only child of Charlotte Ann Hills & Rev. William Hutchins. A Yale Divinity grad and eloquent Congregational minister, he was respected as the foremost worldwide authority on the horticulture of the American sweet pea. Hutchins earned his BA at Yale in 1901 and the BFA in 1909, earning Phi Beta Kappa honors and class awards for his high-minded essays on art and spirituality. With a natural appeal to the footlights, he became a lifelong thespian. Acting, directing, and producing stage events, his papers include reams of original plays scripts of moralizing, episodic comedies, tragedies, and even a “medieval comedy." Click for other pictures.

Seascape & Garden from France's JP Dubord

New oils are now available at the Westport River Gallery (Conn) from French Impressionist Jean-Pierre Dubord. He began to paint in 1967 and had his first exhibit in his native city in 1970. His landscapes evoke the moods of the four seasons in a particularly poetic manner. Showing in numerous exhibitions across France, he eventually exhibited in the prestigious Paris Salons: the Salon des Artistes Francais, and the Salon des Independents. Dubord’s masterful impressionistic scenes of the landscape of Northern France won him many awards and prizes. Click for more images and information.

Lavender Fields by Alex Perez

Born in Santiago, Chile, in 1946, Perez is a fourth generation of artists. After graduating from the ‘Academy of Fine Arts’ in Santiago, he worked in his father's studio - the Ibero-Chilean painter Eduardo Perez - where he acquired most of his artistic knowledge and skill. On his father’s side, Alex Perez is the fourth generation of artists trained in fields ranging from painting to architecture. His Spanish ancestors restored murals and frescos in the ancient cathedrals of 18th century Spain. Perez inherited his love for music from his mother's family, of which came the Philharmonic Conductor Victor Tevah.

New Works in Westport by Realist Jeff Haase

New England Nature Painter Jeff Haase is creates oil painting on board of African elephant with zebras, to serene landscapes (see on this page) in the background. His works are known to confuse people who may initially consider them to be photos. He spends time in the Northeast, Africa, Florida and out West. He has painted sunsets, raccoons, moose, turtle, lions and other animals.
