Calming Beauty of Provence by French Artist Dorie

Dominique Dorié was born in Versailles in 1958. At the age of sixteen he began working in the Louvre in a conservation capacity as a restorer of sculptures.Dorie enjoyed the opportunities his location presented him, most especially, the chance to study the many masterpieces hanging on the walls of the great museum. Although Dorié had little free time, he felt compelled to sketch. Nevertheless he had several small “exhibitions” of his own, by hanging his work in the evenings on the fences of the Church of St. Germain des Pres. 1977 marked the turning point for Dorié’s career. He won a scholarship offered by the city of Paris, which enabled Dominique Dorie to enroll in a night course in drawing. As his skills in that field improved, he developed a desire to use color and began to paint in oil. From 1974 on, Dorié had participated in a number of exhibitions in the towns surrounding Paris. He also had two one-man shows in Paris, and  Strasbourg.

At the age of twenty-four Dominique Dorie decided he needed surroundings with greater calm and quiet, so Dominique Dorie moved to a small village on the edge of the sea in Normandy where he has worked to improve his handling of both light and color. The artist who hung his work on the fences surrounding the church of St. Germain des Pres has traveled a long distance.

Dorie's French Landscapes and Seascapes

   French master artist Dominique Dorie's artistic focus is Provence and its nuances. He is at home with fields of lavender and red poppies, to small inlets filled with sea grass and colorful boats. He often paints lighthouses, flowering apple trees, hilltop villages, and even relaxing, serene waterways. Like many French artists he also signs the back of the picture, notes its size in centimeters, and the subject. He was awarded the Prix du Salon in the latter exhibit; In 1984 & 1985 he exhibited in the prestigious Salon d'Automne; In 1986 he won the Medaille d'Or at an exhibition in Deauville; He has since become one of the most highly regarded painters of his time and is listed in the prestigious international Benezit Encyclopedia, 2000 Edition. Wondrous French Oils by Dominique Dorie

Two small oils by Dominique Dorie are now available. Beautifully framed, they are each 9x11 and in perfect shape. In 1985 Dominique Dorie exhibited his work in the Salon de Criel and in the Salon d'Orly. He was awarded the Prix du Salon in the latter exhibition;  In 1984 and 1985 he exhibited in the prestigious Salon d'Automne; In 1986 he won the Medaille d'Or at an exhibition in Deauville; He has since become one of the most highly regarded painters of his time and is listed in the prestigious Benezit Encylcopedia, 2000 Edition, and is featured on page 687.

 

Vibrant Colorful Scenes by HM Saffer

Powerful images blended with vibrant colors, applied to boards rather than canvas. HM Saffer is a unique man, with a unique and varied career. He feels what he paints, enjoys the diversity of images and colors, and brings many collectors joy. Born in Philadelphia, H.M. Saffer launched his career by exhibiting his art at a public art show at age six. Upon graduation from Temple University in 1965, he traveled to Paris to enroll in grad economics courses. But HM's path took a twist, as he soon leveraged his musical talent performing with notable French stars Hugues Aufray, Jacques Brel, Charles Aznavour, and others. He was later hired by Barclay Records as a producer, and had several hit records in 1968-69.
