Baras was born in Lima, Peru in 1977 and showed exceptional artistic talent at a young age. He studied painting, drawing, sculpture, and etching as part of his artistic training. He graduated from the Escuela Nacional de Bellas Artes. His paintings display an extraordinary realism. Nature is the primary source of inspiration for his works. one must be a consummate observer to get the best results. "The simplest things or nuances go unnoticed by most people. Yet they are the things that are astonishing". His paintings capture an exceptional moment in time, where one has to afford a minute to stop and contemplate that which up to now has gone unseen. These qualities are indicative of a romantic artist who is once very knowledgeable, sincere, and also possess a certain amount of self criticism. He has had numerous exhibitions throughout Peru. French Landscapes & Villages by Caudron

Dr. Caudron's paintings are based on a perfect match of the diverse structures of motifs - through skies forcefully crushed to grounds that offer surprising perspectives - and, while the artist is wandering on the chromatic scale with enthralling boldness, there is nothing he dares not do.Such balance in his works allows the eye to travel nowhere else than on the painted surface. The balance of the bold color palette juxtaposed with the seemingly surreal perspective allows one to be immersed within the work itself, eliminating the notion of the two-dimensional surface. The subjects of the works stand on their own, supported by the innovative use of an old master knife technique combined with a saturated use of color in its purest form. The works themselves appear to be effortless, despite the fact that the works were achieved thanks to extreme rigor. Caudron is a man of intensity; while his primary profession is as a diabetes physician, his interests have also guided him to the titles of pilot, sailor, glider, husband, and, expressionist-impressionist artist. His passions in part stem from a love of character homes, “out of proportion” rooms, and reading. Caudron was born in France in 1947 and has exhibited for two decades. Howlader's Naturalistic Representation

Widely exhibited throughout Asia, Europe, North America, and Australia, S. Howlader’s award-winning art is unique. Born in Bangladesh, he has a Master of Fine Arts from the University of Dhaka and was an International Artist-in-Residence at the Griffis Art Center, New London, CT. His paintings are included in the collections of UNICEF and the National Academy of Fine and Performing Arts of Bangladesh. Melding the beauty of naturalistic representation with the expressive elements of abstraction, he creates his own unique style rich with spiritual and rhythmic undercurrents, and cultural influences. Using a diverse assortment of media, from oil and acrylic to pastels, his light-filled color palette is marked by sophisticated use of translucent hues. He transitions between representation and abstraction. His color choices carry weighty significance, with many hues holding symbolic meaning. Following the gradation of color across the surface, the eye moves from bright white, signifying the future, to dark cool tones, representing the past. His focus can include abstracts, elephants, calla lilies, scull racing boats.

New Cityscapes Capture the Vibrancy of the City

New original paintings by Eugenio. He draws upon philosophy, history and literature for inspiration, and defines the mood and emotions of his work using color. Using oil paint, Eugenio depicts urban scenes in a wistful Impressionist style. As a self-professed admirer of color, his compositions feature vivid hues and radiate with light, a reflection of the artist’s fascination with city life. Eugenio elects to paint people as blurred subjects who almost blend into the scenes around them. This stylistic choice, executed through his unique brush style, shows the harmony of millions of people living and working in the same space. Eugenio’s style shares similarities to the work of Impressionist Claude Monet, but the artist leaves his own mark with his distinct color palette of fiery oranges and golden yellows. Eugenio’s mastery of contrast and movement in his paintings bring them to life, as if the viewer could step into the painting and explore the cities for themselves. Woman in Search of Lost Time by Bechard

Madeleine Béchard was born in Quebec in 1928 and passed away in 2016. She taught at the Chanoine-Beaudet Institute in St-Pascal-de-Kamouras, she perfected her skills with the painter Pierre Labrecque de Charlevoix. She continued her training at the Montreal Fine Arts Workshop, and finally with Louis Desaultiers from 1991-96. Madeleine Béchard's works are characterized above all by the originality of the subject. Long, slender shapes insinuating elegant characters are accentuated by a vivid coloration. Her compositions created under the theme "Woman in Search of Lost Time" are particularly appreciated by connoisseurs. In addition to his repertoire, "Women and Music" is scenes where characters and instrumental forms intertwine to configure creative and unique compositions.

Protsouk's Infatuation with Human Relationships

Born in Ukraine in 1961, Andrei Protsouk painted from an early age and after HS was accepted into the renowned Lugansk State School of Fine Art, followed by a Masters in Fine Art from the Imperial Academy of Arts in St Petersburg, Russia. It was during this time he was taught by his dream professor Evsey Moiseenko, who was friends with Picasso, Chagall. In 1994 he moved to the US where his work became popular in NY showcased by several galleries and attracting collectors from Coca-Cola to President George W Bush. He has embedded his use of line into all of his artworks, his straight constructive use of line embodies his classical training in fine art in every way. The soul of his artwork is in his infatuation with human relationships, love and beauty, he believes that the universal language in the world is love, and he embraces this in each painting playfully with unique colors, lines and textures not seen in any other contemporary artists work. Autumn Colors Reflected in Olaf's Originals

Te lovely Angel of the Waters, at the Bethesda Fountain in Central Park NYC. Its among the largest fountains in NY, 26 feet by 96 wide. It was the only sculpture to have been commissioned as a part of Central Park's original design. This neoclassical sculpture features an 8-foot bronze angel who stands above four small cherubim representing health, purity, temperance and peace. The picture is 30x40, and oil on canvas. Angel of the Waters was designed by Emma Stebbins in 1868 and dedicated in 1873, at which point she became the first woman to receive commission for a major work of art in the city of NY. Insightful Works by Urban Landscapist J. Bye

From an early age, J. Bye he showed a talent for rendering still lives and landscapes. Because visual communication always interested him, he decided to pursue art after graduating high school. His medium is both oils and acrylics, depending on the image, style, and time. He entered the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) for his undergraduate studies, where he discovered his passion for the human figure. he spent a year in Rome, through RISD's European Honors Program where he studied classical art and architecture. After RISD, he continued with his graduate studies at the NY Academy of Figurative Art. His formal education exposed him further to the works of artists like Matisse, Bonnard and Lucian Freud, whose styles influence his work.

Olaf uses color, light, and brushwork to achieve visual harmony. Eugenio's Luminous Cityscape Reflections

Cities are exciting places full of sights, sounds and even smells from eateries and pastry shops. Peruvian artist Eugenio paints urban scenes in which the people within the painting seem somewhat blurred compared to the cityscape. His compositions are filled with luminous touches of vivid color that reflect the artists fascination towards city life. Eugenio studied at the Beaux-Arts Superior School of Tacna, where he graduated with high honors in painting. He has also achieved superior studies at l’École des beaux-arts in Lima, Peru. Magnificent Spirited, Colorful Art by Caudron

Color and vibrancy from France. Artist Didier Caudron was born in France in 1947, and admits he is fond of Southern France's sunlight. Lover of character homes and out of proportion rooms, former glider pilot, passionate about sailing, gliding as well as reading. He has exhibited his works for two decades. The way the surface is used purifies to the greatest degree the subject, made even more obvious by dismissing any ornament. Such a feeling of the painting, such a magnificent spirit can rarely be seen and the combination of the two render a dazzling result, which makes one, under the spell, forget that is was achieved thanks to extreme rigour. Landscapes with an Infusion of Bold Color

The simplicity of the countryside, combined with earthen colors make the new works by M. Smith very enticing for home and office. Smith was born in South Africa and raised in Zimbabwe, and he arrived in Canada in the late 1980’s. After initially studying architecture, he attended the Salisbury School of Art, followed by in-depth studies with the UK’s Michael Chase. His career continued as an award winning multinational art director/creative director, until he decided to move out into the country in order to paint full-time in 2003. Click for others.

Lecomte's Unique View of Brittany, Provence

Bold, bright colors and compositions from France. Most are oils, some are multimedia. All are creatve and unique. Lecomte was born in 1960 in Rennes, France. After studying visual art, Lecomte began focusing her interests on the art of watercolor. She developed a unique technique, creating soft and colorful works featuring her native Brittany. Timeless Beauty of the "Little Black Dress"

Zoey brings us the Little Black Dress (LBD). Great for your home, office or as a unique gift. Four are available, ranging from 28x22 on paper, and others on canvas, 18x24 and 16x20. Others available. The LBD designed by Hubert de Givenchy for Audrey Hepburn in "Breakfast at Tiffany's" came to symbolize the epitome of chic, in a film that influenced fashion more than most. In 1926, Vogue became the first magazine to publish a drawing of the LBD designed by Coco Chanel. The magazine predicted this would become a uniform for women of all ages & social classes. Vilcaz: Elegant Colors, Movements & Textures

Abstract boats, poppy fields and colorful canvasses. French Artist Vilcaz creates colorful, vibrant, and dynamic imagery resulting in unique masterpieces. Working in the Batch and Garonne regions of France, Vilcaz is inspired by her colorful, artistic surroundings. Her works on canvas reflect her perspective on the essence of nature. Her interpretation displays what is not defined or detailed, while her concentration on matter and texture bring forth the images. Her beautiful impressionist abstractions reveal an extraordinary flow of elegant colors, movements, and textures. Vilcaz’s use of blue, red, yellow and greens, and rhythm are suggestions of form. Imaginative Impressions of Blustery Nature

Swirling, blustery winds and oceans blending into a feeling, a pattern, a powerful colorful display. Lex has transformed his impressions of nature into an imaginative experience in  oils and pastels. His painterly style incorporates distinctive brush strokes, finger painting, and mark making, accompanied by a  blending of color. His works began as pastels, and recently changed to working with longer-lating oil paints. An award-winning artist based in sunny Florida, though originally from the snowy-Albany, NY-area, he received the Grand Prize Award in the 67th Cooperstown (NY) National Juried Exhibition. His work has appeared in numerous international, national, & regional juried exhibitions.

France's Mo Gart Delights with Modern Florals

New original oil paintings at the Westport River Gallery include fresh creative works with a modern twist by noted French artist Mo Gart. Mo Gart is a multiple gold-medal winner in France for her mastery of light, landscapes & seascapes. She is known for a variety of works, from flowing waers with birds and boats, to timeless landscapes, and mood pieces with colorful backgrounds. Her new works include unique florals with a cubist slant, complete with shades of red, yellow, pale blues, greens and pinks. The new works are 20x24, with one larger piece, with sunflowers. Times Square Mosaics of Fragmented Colors

Kya Nam Han interprets Korean Modernism within Western context and vice versa—Western Modernism within Far Eastern cultural context. He uses traditional values and methodologies, such as perspective and chiaroscuro of the West, and Chun (passage and grid) from the East. He blends Eastern isometric perspective with traditional Western linear perspective painting to create a fusion of both depth and flatness, and then apply calligraphic principles to recreate new pictorial images. He mixes two cultural genes together. The images of the street include cars, buildings, lights, and the mosaics of fragmented color are masterfully demonstrated. He repeatedly superimposes and substitutes structures and images by overlapped lines of contours. The images, the whole drama of the surface come under the relationship of deconstruction resulted from the effective usage of grids. His work is in collections that include American Express Headquarters, NY; Supreme Court, Seoul, Korea; Samsung Corp., Seoul, Korea. This is one original at the Westport River Gallery, size 32x39.

Louis Schanker Exhibit; Painter, Protester, Woodcut-Printing Expert, Sculptor

Westport River Gallery is proud to exhibit works by Louis Schanker (1903-1981), known as one of The Whitney Ten. A new exhibit of his works runs through July 31. His works are in collections at dozens of museums, including Yale University Art Gallery, Museum of Modern Art, Smithsonian American Art Museum, Whitney Museum of American Art, Metropolitan Museum of Art, Harvard University Art Museum, Boston Museum of Fine Art. Louis Schanker quit school as a teen and joined the circus, worked in the wheat fields of the Great Plains and rode the rails. In 1919, he went to NY and began studying art. He spent 1931-32 in Paris and returned to NY as something of a Cubist, becoming a muralist and graphic arts supervisor for the WPA and a founding member of The Ten to which he was affiliated till the end. Schanker was a radical among radicals. His “conglomerations of color-patches, among other things,” wrote the sympathetic critic Emily Genauer in 1935, “are bound to alienate no small part of the gallery-going public.” They did not alienate a small part of the NY art scene, and Schanker was invited to the Whitney Annual, even though he later protested against it as one of the “dissenters." By 1937, even the hostile New York Times critic, Edward Alden Jewell, conceded, when speaking of Schanker's major WPA mural at the municipal building studios of WNYC in New York, that “Mr. Schanker” had “a touch of lyric feeling." In 1938, Art News declared that “Louis Schanker’s delightful Street Scene From My Window calls forth admiration for its delicacy of color and kaleidoscopic forms in plane geometry.” Click for other images. both on paper and plexi.

Famed Whitney Ten, WPA artist Louis Schanker

An extraordinary new work by Louis Schanker on heavy plexiglass is on display and for sale at the Westport River Gallery. More works to come. Known as one of The Whitney Ten, Louis Schanker became one of the protesters against the Whitney Museum for the museum's unwillingness to exhibit abstract art. From 1940 to 1960, he taught at the New School of Social Research in New York and from 1964 at Bard College. As an artist, his emphasis was on experimentation and breaking away from Regionalism and Precisionism to focus on abstraction and emotional expression. However, he maintained that some element of realism lay at the core of his work. In the 1930s, he was a WPA artist and worked on murals in New York City. Born in 1903, Louis Schanker quit school as a teenager and joined the circus, worked in the wheat fields of the Great Plains, and rode the rails. In 1919, he went to New York and began studying art. He spent 1931 and 1932 in Paris and came back "something of a Cubist", becoming a muralist and graphic arts supervisor for the WPA and a founding member of The Ten, to which he was attached from start to finish. Since 1993, she has exhibited her paintings predominantly in Brittany, Provence, Paris, China, New York and Westport. Her work is bold, brash and can easily fit into any room, office or study. She paints florals with a pallet knife, and creates whisps of colors. The Westport River Gallery has several of her works.

Bold Landscapes by Jean Claude Tron

Born in 1943 in Champagne sur Oise, France, Jean Claude Tron began to paint at the age of 13 At 16 he started work, but his desire to paint was so strong that he continued his art studies through evening classes. Despite fulfilling numerous commissions and holding exhibitions of his work at several prestigious galleries, Jean Claude Tron did not begin to dedicate all his energies to painting until 1990. Since then he has seen his reputation grow steadily throughout Europe and the United States, where his work is in constant demand and his originals sell for commanding prices. We have one picture left.

Human Dignity by René Dessainte of Belgium

René Dessainte of Belgium captures the essence of each and every human being he paints. The portraits are alive and confident, sometimes depicted in the company of a family or friends, and sometimes alone in a real or invented environment where he feels they are most comfortable or appropriate. Dessainte employs a symphony of color that is a significant, but discreet, asset in his work. The formal elements and surfaces of joyful, blazing, direct yellow, green, orange, and blue high tones float above the melody of a rather severe, more strictly bowed color tones of his background and figures. The single greatest quality in the René Dessainte's work is that you will see in one portrait firmness and dignity, another joy and love, and another fine humor and sparkles of melancholy. It is this diversity that reflects René’s true appreciation of each person.

Colorful works by Michel Ferran

Born in 1943 close to Narbonne, Michel Ferran, photographer and painter since childhood, decided in 1992 to open a workshop and consequently became a professional painter, primarily focusing on the landscapes of Provence. His painting evolved quickly to a purified stylization of the subjects and forms. Working the paste and the colors together, it carved its fabric of a pallet containing blue, ochres, yellows and reds, highlighting the light to create unique effects. His talent was noticed by collectors and publishers. His pictured were then collected across Europe, and the United States, until he passed away in 2003.

The Fauvist Colors of Jean Claude Tron

French artist Jean Claude Tron is passionate about the southern region of France, Provence, which remains his source of inspiration (this is also true of many artists, including Elisabeth Estivalet). The extravagance of the colors he uses betrays the influence of Fauvist Expressionism, with brilliant yellow, deep blues, strong reds, shades of violet and vivid green. His canvases are characterized by simplicity of form which represents the natural order of the countryside, while the thickly applied blocks of color make the fields vibrate with light. Elisabeth Estivalet and the Beauty of Provence

Introducing French Artist Guyon

French Artist Michel Guyon studied at the Beaux Art School of Nantes at the end of the sixties and gained experience in theatrical practice. He became passionate for opera, music, and painting which brought him to create theatre decorations, costumes, and posters. In the seventies, he worked on lyrical spectacles and amassed numerous decorations as set designer for the operas Noces de Figaro, The Magic Flute, Don Giovani, Carmen, and Faust. His talent with decoration shows through his beautifully realized artistic works, a mixture of a poetry of colors and a strong touch of glaze, attesting to Guyon‘s wonderful talent as a painter. Elisabeth Estivalet: Beauty of Provence

Although Elisabeth Estivalet has degrees in both Economics and Philosophy, the countryside of Provence elicited from her a natural artistic talent, and she instinctively embarked on a passionate and lifelong career as an artist. Painting solely with a palette knife, Elisabeth Estivalet taught herself to master the techniques of color management, perspective and composition. What resulted are candid renditions of a tranquil and serene Provence. Elisabeth Estivalet's sunny landscapes bring to mind the works of the old Post-Impressionist masters. Her subject matter and artistic style are reminiscent of the masterful works of Paul Cézanne. Bulan Offers Colorful, Vibrant Art

French artist Stephane Bulan's premier exhibition was in 1977 at Galerie Drouant in France. Today several works are offered at the Westport River Gallery in Westport, Connecticut. The artist delivers a punch utilizing vibrant yellows, blues, greens and other primary colors in his work. 

His images are strong and proud and there is cleanliness to his form that is paramount in his artworks. Bulan has an outstanding ability to employ exciting colors and yet fill each canvas with captivating warmth. For more of his works at the Westport River Gallery in Connecticut, click here.

Textural Color Brought to Life

Arthur Vitello's work has been described as the quintessence of traditional art with a contemporary flair. The sincerity and simplicity of his compositions are brought to life by the exquisite texture he is able to achieve by overlapping many layers of paint. His texture is created by initially using acrylic, and then using multiple layers of oil. He is able to create color fields so rich in texture as to make the viewer feel engulfed in his work as a part of the piece.

He received a BFA from Paier College of Art in Connecticut and the grad program at Yale University School of Drama. Arthur has also painted for the Goodspeed Opera in Connecticut, JFK Center in Washington D.C., Glimmerglass Opera in NY, and the Utah Shakespearean Festival. Click here for other pictures.

New original pictures of barns have been created by American artist Mona Brown and are almost ready for the upcoming Dec. 6 show at the Westport River Gallery. Her works are oils, and her images are inspired from her numerous travels in Vermont and New England. She is known for her pictures of pastoral cows and flowing poppies.
