Surreal and Fun Art of Rafal Olbinski

Born in Kielce, Poland in 1943, Rafal Olbinski studied architecture before dedicating himself to painting and design. He graduated from the Architectural Department of Warsaw Politechnical School. In 1982 he immigrated to the US, where he soon established himself as a prominent painter, illustrator and designer. In 1985, he began teaching at the School of Visual Arts in New York. He is well known as an internationally acclaimed designer of opera house posters and for designing the covers of hundreds of magazines, from Time to Newsweek to The New Yorker. Commissioned by Allegro Music, he has completed over 100 album covers for their Opera D’Oro Series. Olbinski was commissioned to create several paintings illustrating articles and essays on moral values, which appeared in seven consecutive issues of the German magazine Stern. 

HM Saffer's Mysterious & Colorful Landscapes

Award winning and unique artist HM Saffer has just sent the Westport River Gallery several new vibrant works on canvas and board. In 1965, he went to Paris to take economics classes, but wound up becoming a musician with Hugues Aufray, Jacques Brel and Charles Aznavour. HM Saffer was hired by Barclay Records as a producer and had several hits during the late 1960s During this time he also was chef/owner of two restaurants in Paris and later a third in Ibiza, Spain. However, all during this era he never stopped painting and exhibiting. He took classes at L’Ecole des Beaux Arts in Paris and had exhibits in Paris and Brussels before returning to the U.S. in 1970. H.M. started his music career with Warner Brothers where he co-wrote the international hit song “Look What They Done To My Song Ma” recorded by pop star Melanie. Click for more information.

Gentle French Countryside by Kaprielian

A new impressionist picture has come in by Yetvart Kaprielian, noted artist collected worldwide. The waterside communities in Kaprielian's paintings are a balance of serenity and bustling activity. He so well captures quaint village life in a sophisticated and detailed way. Since 1984, Yetvart Kaprielian has regularly been shown in several salons in Paris and at exhibitions in France and abroad. His work continues to garner enthusiasm in the art world as Kaprielian continues to paint with the quality and determination of his impressionist predecessors.  Among his most recent collectors is the Royal Family of Morocco.

The interplay of light and shadows is not by accident in the works by French artist JP Courchia. And the basic constriction of many famous works of art is also not by accident. Jean-Paul Courchia comes to the Westport River Gallery in Westport, Connecticut by way of France. The physician-lecturer-artist’s oil paintings on canvas are displayed in Marseille in the famous Provencal Gallery Jouvène, which Van Gogh and Cezanne called home for their art work. Her Highness Queen Paola of Belgium and Madame Nobutaka Shinomiya, wife of the Consul of Japan in Marseille, are avid collectors of his work.
