New paintings have arrived at the Westport River Gallery from noted master painter Dominique Dorie, a Benezit artist. At age 16 he began working in the Louvre in a conservation capacity as a sculpture restorer. His textured canvases display a unique color sense, his clearly blocked, linear approach bring depth and a quiet strength to a rural landscape, a serene harbor, or a shadowed interior. Dorie is constantly refining his very individual style and broadening his range with a variety of new subjects. He enjoyed the opportunities his location presented him, most especially, the chance to study the many masterpieces hanging on the walls of the great museum. Although Dorie had little free time, he felt compelled to sketch. Click to see others.
