Imprisoning Light by France's J.P. Dubord

French master artist John-Pierre Dubord has an original approach to painting: his choice of palette colors is rich in its tones,fresh and uplifting; his canvases reveal an intense joy of life; and his love of the rhythms of nature are interpreted with nuances of color. Jean Pierre Dubord has mastered the art of imprisoning light on canvas. The delicate poetic strain in his paintings has been influenced by the Impressionists. There is a very personal touch as well, however, for as one critic remarked, "Dubord is guided solely by his heart and emotions." Westport River Gallery in Westport  is pleased to offer his new works.

Homage to Red by French Artist Caudron

New paintings are soon on the way from France to the Westport River Gallery. Caudron was born in France in 1947, and admits he is fond of France's sunlight. Lover of character homes and out of proportion rooms, former glider pilot, passionate about sailing, gliding as well as reading. He has exhibited his works for two decades. The way the surface is used purifies to the greatest degree the subject, made even more obvious by dismissing any ornament. Such a feeling of the painting, such a magnificent spirit can rarely be seen and the combination of the two render a dazzling result, which makes one, under the spell, forget that is was achieved thanks to extreme rigour. Westport Scenes by Folk Artists Bond, Jakobsen

Three lithographs featuring West[port CT, are available by known/listed American Folk Artists. Kathy Jakobsen is one of America's premier folk artists. (Main St at right). Her paintings are in permanent collections, including the Museum of American Folk Art & the Smithsonian. She also lived nearby in Weston. She didn't attend prestigious art schools, but started working in a factory making bumper stickers by day & painting by night. In the 1960s, Milton Bond began recording small oil scenes on the back of clear glass. He recorded bucolic rural scenes & busy urban vistas churning with activity. Working alone and without instruction, he mastered the technique. The late artists' style is semi-primitive, finely detailed, gaily colored, featuring rural New England scenes. One is the National Building (at left) that still stands at the gateway to Westport, back in 1873 on the Fourth of July. His work has won awards & was acquired by the Smithsonian , the Museum of American Folk Art, the Grand Palais and the Henri Rousseau Museum in Paris. See others my Milton and daughter Sue Bond.
