Florals Herald the Coming Spring

A group of 11x14 florals are now available for the budget-minded collector. DNIE creates uses a colorful pallet of greens, blues, yellows and oranges that beautifully blend into a mix of classic impressionism with a strong dash of Fauvism. He favors colorful pictures, where the viewer can see themselves along a steam, in a flowing field with gentle breezes. DNIE is a native of Shanghai, China and came to the US years ago after accepting a full scholarship to study art. He has a B.A. in Art from Wake Forest University in and an M.A./M.F.A. from The American University in Washington DC. Light, Shade & Color by J.L. Nunez

J. L. Nunez is an artistic painter who enjoys the vibrations of light, shade & color. Color means life and radiant plenitude in his paintings. He usually paints with oils, and sometimes acrylics because they allow him to use thick layers of paint and to leave traces of brush strokes. He likes to paint an unlimited range of topics that reflect his broad interests in art and life. The presence and methodical blending of light and shade are normally the leading factors in his paintings. The fascination of the effects of light on the painting subjects is what brought him to paint. Whenever possible, J.L. Nunez prefers to paint directly from the subject. Normally he sets his models in his studio. Therefore, for landscaping, he does a lot of plein air painting. He does smaller paintings in the spot and then works from them if he wants a larger painting. Born in Mexico City, J. L. began painting at the age of 13and he studied Art and Philosophy in Spain, Italy and Mexico. He did graduate studies in Painting and Metal Engraving at the National Autonomous University of Mexico. He has had more than 40 exhibits in different countries, including individual and Group Exhibits in the United States, Brazil (2000-2002), Argentina (1999), Costa Rica (1998) and Mexico. Jose Luis Nunez has gained recognition from different juries and has been awarded several times. He also devotes time to art education. He taught painting in Brazil and sometimes help workshops in his former Cincinnati Studio.

Year of the Dragon Exhibit Begins March 15

When artist Jin was asked by the World Journal to create 12 unique dragons for its annual calendar, he knew he wanted to incorporate a wide variety of traditional and modern art from Chinese, European and American traditions.  The finished works include elements of calligraphy, seal cutting, oil and watercolor painting, sculpture, wood and paper cutting, embroidery, wall painting, ceramics and porcelain. Each month’s illustration has as a background one of the 12 unique colors in the 12-Color Wheel and 17 other different colors. A different representation of the Chinese character for “dragon,” taken from history and literature, is used for each illustration, making each dragon authentic and unique. March 15 to March 28 his unique works are on display at the Westport River Gallery.

Program March 4: Monet to Lichtenstein: Environmental Impact on an Artists Work;

A special program is being offered by French artist Dr. Jean-Paul Courchia entitled “The impact of environment on the artistic creation.” The program is 3 pm March 4. RSVP required. Call us at 203-226-6934. “ At the center of his environmental sphere we can assume that the greatest influence over an artist is exerted by his own image and then by the one of his immediate acquaintances (family or friends). Several examples can help demonstrate a relationship between the artist’s physique and his work. Claude Monet’s beard resembles the willow’s reflections in the water. Piet Mondrian has a face that is as grave as are his lines; Bernard Buffet and Fernand Leger both look like the characters they are depicting. Gerard Garouste states: “I am my best model.” Roy Lichtenstein seems to find his own self in his works.

Jean Pierre Dubord: Rich Tones of Life

Jean Pierre Dubord is known for his ability to capture the subtleties of light and color unique to each seasons. In 1970, he had his first exhibition of approximately thirty paintings in Rouen , a show which was highly praised by art critics. In addition to an annual show in Rouen, he has also exhibited in Bourdeaux, Le Havre, La Rochelle, Osaka, Quebec and in the major, famous salons of Paris. Dubord has his own original approach to painting. His palette is rich in its tones, and is fresh and uplifting. His work is so highly regarded that he is the recipient of numerous prestigious awards. E. J. Paprocki Features Highly Collected Impressionist Originals

Exhibited widely, he has been featured in 14 solo exhibitions and many prestigious group shows. His work has received critical acclaim and has been featured in several national magazines including Art of the West, Southwest Art, and Gulf Shore Life. Unique Bold works by Lecomte; Florals and Landscapes

Vibrant colors and mood-lifting images. Nadine Lecomte was born on March 26, 1960 in Rennes, France. After studying visual arts, she began focusing her interests on watercolor. She developed a unique technique, creating soft and colorful works featuring her native Brittany. Later, when she began painting in oil, vibrant images of Provence and Africa became the primary subjects of her work. Since 1993, she has exhibited her paintings predominantly in Brittany, Provence, Paris, China, New York and Westport. Her work is bold, brash and can easily dominate a room, office or study.
