Interplay of Light and Shadows by Dr. Courchia

The interplay of light and shadows is not by accident in the works by French artist Jean-Paul Courchia. And the basic constriction of many famous works of art is also not by accident. Jean-Paul Courchia comes to the Westport River Gallery in Westport, Connecticut by way of France. The physician-lecturer-artist’s oil paintings on canvas are displayed in Marseille in the famous Provencal Gallery Jouvène, which Van Gogh and Cezanne called home for their art work. Her Highness Queen Paola of Belgium and Madame Nobutaka Shinomiya, wife of the Consul of Japan in Marseille, are avid collectors of his work. Visit the 4-Generation Pissarro Exhibit

The Westport River Gallery presents a mini-exhibit entitled "Four Centuries of Pissarro" starting Feb 14 that includes 12 pictures from four generations of the famed internationally known Pissarro family. This also includes one picture (see this page) never seen outside the family's home, by Paulemile. This came from his widow. The Pissarro family spans three centuries, starting in the 19th century wHen Camille Pissarro was born. The exhibit includes Camille, three of his sons, grandson H. Claude, and great grand daughter Lelia. Born July 10, 1830 in St. Thomas, Virgin Islands. Camille Pissarro was sent to Paris to study as a boy, where he earned acclaim for his budding talent as an artist. He was obligated to return to St. Thomas in 1847 to help his father run his general store, but by 1855, he had convinced his parents to allow him to pursue his dream of becoming a painter. 

Jean Pierre Dubord Reflects French Love & Life

Jean Pierre Dubord has his own original approach to painting. His palette is rich in its tones, and is fresh, uplifting and sometimes makes you smile. Jean Pierre Dubord is the recipient of numerous prestigious awards. Dubord’s canvases reveal his own intense joy of life and his love of the rhythms of nature is distinguished by a nuanced use of color. The artist’s mastery of his secrets of imprisoning light on canvas and the very delicate poetic strain in his painting may be traced to the impressionist masters, but it bears a very personal touch as well. Adventures on the Islands & Bryant Park

New works from Brian Sage have arrived, and reflect his professional journey into impressionistic depth. His works are more vibrant, deeper, stronger, colorful, and reflect his self-imposed exile in an effort to get better. His two new works are 24x30, and the subjects include island boating adventure and Bryant Park in New York City. Sage works hard to master the light, reflections and even flow of every picture he tackles. He's a perfectionist with an approach that might include hundreds of pictures before he approaches his canvas. His work is sparked by the images he sees, and even the impressions he gleans from what he feels. He is represented in the region exclusively by the Westport River Gallery.

Dominique Dorie's Lush French Countryside

That special wall may just be right for one of the largest paintings on display the Westport River Gallery. The picture by Dominique Dorie is 58x45 and features a lush landscape. Though Paris is the center of art in France, working there can lead to many distractions. At the age of 24 Dominique Dorié needed surroundings with greater calm and quiet, so he moved to a small village on the edge of the sea in Normandy where he worked to improve his handling of both light and color. The artist who hung his work on the fences surrounding the church of St. Germain des Pres has traveled a long distance. In 1985 he exhibited his work in the Salon de Criel and in the Salon d'Orly. He was awarded the Prix du Salon in the latter exhibition. In 1984 and 1985 he exhibited in the prestigious Salon d'Automne. In 1986 he won the Medaille d'Or at an exhibition in Deauville. He has since become one of the most highly regarded painters of his time and is listed in the prestigious Benezit Encyclopedia, 2000 Edition, on page 687. Click for other pictures available.
