Daring Perspectives by French Artist Dr. Caudron

Dr. Caudron's (French diabetes physician) paintings are based on a perfect match between the diverse structures of motifs - through skies forcefully crushed to grounds which offer surprising perspectives - and, while the artist is wandering on the chromatic scale with enthralling boldness, there is nothing he dares not do. Such balance in his works allows the eye to travel nowhere else than on the painted surface and trace the detail of some knife-shaped pattern which clears the space for flat tints so that the eye is focused on what is of the essence. Such a feeling of the painting, such a magnificent spirit can rarely be seen and the combination of the two render a dazzling result, which makes one, under the spell, forget that is was achieved thanks to extreme rigour. Original British Art by Roger Bigg

Welcome to the new oil paintings by British artist and advertising exec Roger Bigg. Very simply, he said he paints because “ I just love the excitement of filling that white space, seeing the image grow, creating the balances between shapes and colours. Making the choice between realism and abstraction.” From a very young age of 3 or 4 young Bigg began painting, and by age 6 he won a painting competition for the BBC. He spent many hours “in my own world of drawing and colour.” Bigg was creative director for several international advertising agencies, such as McCann's, WPP and Publis. At age 18 at the Canterbury College of Arts for Fine Arts, graphic design and architecture, he was fortunate to have paintings hung at the Royal Academy of Arts. See his available works.

Le Pont de Vey Painting by Paulemile Pissarro

A new addition to the galelry is entitled Le Pont de Vey, Calvados (18x22), by Paulemile Pissarro (1884-1972). Paulemile was the fifth & youngest son of Camille Pissarro, born in Eragny close to Giverny, home of his father's closest friend, Claude Monet. He was 19 when his father died. As he grew older, it was to Monet that Paulemile gravitated, adopting him as a father figure, teacher, friend. And it was Monet, as much or more than his father, who was to influence his art as the youngest Pissarro yearned to follow in his father's footsteps. He & his second wife bought a home near Clecy on the Orne River in the area of hills & valleys known as Swiss Normandy. There they raised three children: two sons & a daughter. His oldest son, H. Claude also became a painter. In 1967, Paulemile had his first one-man show in the US at Wally Findlay Galleries in NY, which led to wide recognition & success in this country.

Window into the French World by Dr. Courchia

French artist Jean-Paul Courchia just sent this unique composition, a window into a landscape and seascape. The physician-lecturer-artist’s oil paintings on canvas are displayed in Marseille in the famous Provencal Gallery Jouvène, which Van Gogh and Cezanne called home for their art work. Her Highness Queen Paola of Belgium and Madame Nobutaka Shinomiya, wife of the Consul of Japan in Marseille, are avid collectors of his work. He is also a medical doctor of endocrinology and metabolic diseases, and fascinated by science, art, medicine, perceptions, and light. He works with the department of ophthalmology in Saint-Joseph’s hospital in Marseille. See the Whisper Video.

Land-Seascape by Georges Yoldjoglou

Original oil by a heavily decorated French artist? One available, 21x25, (not incl. frame), by internationally known Georges Yoldjoglou. "Yold"  was born in Paris June 25, 1933. His work is colorful, light, flowing, almost wistful in its approach. His skies are dramatic, and land is full of life. 1956-90 he was artistic director at TOTAL, France Designer of stamps and posters. Other distinctions: 1992 - Laureat of the French government competition for the design of coins; 1993 - Winner of the Best Crown coin design, Winter Sport, Baltimore, USA; 1996 - Illustrated colette´s art book "Belles Saisons" with original colored lithographies edited by Pierre de Tartas, Paris; 1996 - Laureat of the French State Competition for the design of a symbolic motive for aircraft-carrier "Charles de Gaulle"; 2004 - Promoted by the French government to the rank of Chevalier dans l´Ordre des Arts & Letters.

Wondrous French Oils by Dominique Dorie

Two small oils by Dominique Dorie are now available. Beautifully framed, they are each 9x11 and in perfect shape. In 1985 Dominique Dorie exhibited his work in the Salon de Criel and in the Salon d'Orly. He was awarded the Prix du Salon in the latter exhibition;  In 1984 and 1985 he exhibited in the prestigious Salon d'Automne; In 1986 he won the Medaille d'Or at an exhibition in Deauville; He has since become one of the most highly regarded painters of his time and is listed in the prestigious Benezit Encylcopedia, 2000 Edition, and is featured on page 687.

Sweeping panoramic vistas, ln land and along the coast. Carmela Zenna was born in 1960 in Napoli, where she lives and works. She is a student of the master Amleto Colucci, internationally known artist. Zenna's paintings are exhibited in art exhibitions in Italy. They reflect almost surgical precision that makes flowering bushes come alive, flowering hillsides, pristine water, and welcoming pathways that reflect the endearing and colorful Italian countryside. The Impressionist Simplicity of EJ Paprocki

E.J. Paprocki’s paintings at the Westport River Gallery are packed with color, light variances, and true impressionist strokes. A simple brick path, water lillies, Bruges, a plain iron gate, sailboats that mirror the contours of the clouds and seas. During visits to many of the great museums in the US and Europe, Paprocki was drawn to the familiar genius of the 19th century Impressionists, and he admired Monet, Pissarro, and Sisley. Through careful study, Paprocki found direction in his own artistic vision. His subject matter evolved from cityscape to the country, the gardens the rural path, distant sailboats, the floral still life. He is just as comfortable with an American, Italian, or British subject.

Pissarro Les Rhododendroms Serigraph

One serigraph left from Hugues Claude Pissarro, father of lelia Pissaro, grandson of the Impressionist painter Camille Pissarro and son of Paulemile Pissarro. "Les Rhododendroms" is a limited edition (425 made), hand signd serigraph. Born in Neuilly-sur-Seine and enveloped in an artistic environment, H. Claude Pissarro spent his childhood and youth with art. Carrying on a family tradition established by Camille Pissarro, his father frequently took Hugues on painting excursions, accompanied by his artist friends, and these proved formative for him. Initially taught by his father, Pissarro first exhibited his work at 14. He subsequently studied art in Paris at prestigious establishments such as Ecole du Musée du Louvre. His daughter is Lelia Pissarro.

Reflecting the Colorful Italian Countryside

Poumelin's Expression of Poetic Elements

French artist Richard Poumelin's art is expressed in his music as an accomplished guitarist. His landscapes, Venetian seascapes, still lifes, and his others are filled with a spiritual exercise. His works evoke a feeling, a sense of place, and sometimes the gold paint jumps out against the serene black and white. A silver medallist in 1996 at the Grand Salon Internationnal de Peinture, and the grand prize gold medalist in 1997 at the Internationnal d’Arts Plastiques Poumelin’s work are in a number of significant private and corporate collections. Camille Pissarro's Son, Claude Monet's Godson

Paulémile Pissarro, Camille's youngest son, was born in Eragny in 1884. Today, Westport River Gallery has a number of his works available. At left is a pencil drawing; at right is an oil painting. He was bought up in the artistic environment of the family home there and, encouraged by his father, began drawing at an early age. Paulémile's godfather was Claude Monet who became his teacher and close friend, especially after Camille's death in 1903. In 1905, Paulémile exhibited at the  Salon des Independants, showing an impressionist landscape entitled Bords de l'Epte á Eragny, and although his father had supported his desire to be an artist, his mother was eager for him to learn a more practical trade. In 1908, he put aside his artistic pursuits and worked as an auto mechanic and test-driver, and then as a lace & textile designer, thus allowing him a little time to paint. While Paulémile was still working at the lace factory his brother Lucien, who lived in London, asked him to send over some watercolors, and the sale of these encouraged Paulémile to leave the factory and dedicate himself to painting. In 1967, he had his first one-man show in the U.S. at Wally Findlay Galleries in NY. This led to recognition and a degree of professional success few Pissarro artists had known during their lifetime. Since his death in 1972, Paulémile's paintings have been exhibited around the world.

Henri Lepetit, From France to St. Tropez

Henri Lepetit is a special artist, who now owns an old German home that dates back hundreds of years. He and his wife Tatiana are great visitors to the gallery about once a year. Art has always had a dominant place in his life and this natural talent means that from the early age of 16 he paid for many of his world trips by painting and selling his works en route. With no formal art education he has always had to rely on the public at large to be his severest critic. What you see here are images from Southport Connecticut, Paris, Saint Tropez and Southern France.

France's Mo Gart Delights with Modern Florals

New original oil paintings at the Westport River Gallery include fresh creative works with a modern twist by noted French artist Mo Gart. Mo Gart is a multiple gold-medal winner in France for her mastery of light, landscapes & seascapes. She is known for a variety of works, from flowing waers with birds and boats, to timeless landscapes, and mood pieces with colorful backgrounds. Her new works include unique florals with a cubist slant, complete with shades of red, yellow, pale blues, greens and pinks. The new works are 20x24, with one larger piece, with sunflowers. Scenes of Downland Life by Stephen Hawkins

New landscapes have arrived from England by Stephen Hawkins, complete with mist, animals and fences. Stephen was born in Surrey in 1964. As a child, Stephen combined an enthusiasm for horses with a love of drawing. He soon displayed a natural artistic ability which led him to produce equestrian and countryside paintings using a variety of medium. Stephen now concentrates on landscapes, mainly of the South Downs and Sussex, that  capture the subtle changes of light and shade throughout the seasons. The inclusion of sheep, cattle and horses in many of his landscapes helps to convey truthfully the peaceful atmosphere of modern day Downland life. At right is 16x24; at least, 6x8. His paintings have been exhibited at the Royal Society of Equestrian Artists and at various exhibits around England and the US. See other works.

Jean Pierre Dubord's Nuances of Color & Form

French Impressionist Jean Pierre Dubord has a palette rich in it’s uplifting tones. His work is so highly regarded that he has been the recipient of numerous prestigious awards. Dubord’s canvases reveal his own intense joy of life and his love of rhythms of nature are distinguished by a nuance use of colors, form and movement. The artist’s mastery of his secrets of imprisoning light on canvas and the very delicate poetic strain in his painting may be traced to the impressionist manner, but it bears a very personal touch as well. One critic remarked Dubord is guided solely by his heart and emotions. Huchet, Zarou French Lithographs Available

A variety of lithographs have come in to the Westport River Gallery from French artists including Urbain Huchet and Victor Zarou. Huchet was born in Rennes, France in 1930. After studying law and owning a textile factory for years, he decided in 1960 to devote himself to painting. He spent his first three years as an artist in Port-Aven, following in the footsteps of Gaugin and Emile Bernard, both of whom influenced him. Huchet is a master of Contemporary Impressionism. His paintings and lithos celebrate a wide spectrum of life ranging from delightful vignettes of the Parisian scene to the inspired beauty of dramatic seascapes and the French countryside. Many of his paintings express his love of the sea and the Brittany coast. After moving to Paris in 1963, his love of adventure and travel led him to spend time painting and writing in Europe, the Middle East and South America where he produced marvelous imagery capturing the essence of the lands and people. He made 14 trips of more than 4 months each, from Mexico to Brazil, via Peru, Central America and the Caribbean islands. A luxurious portfolio of lithos of Egypt shows his love of that country. His wonderful depictions of circus performers, musicians and everyday people were strongly influenced by his adventures and sojourns in foreign lands. Exhibitions of his work have been held throughout he world. Paris, however, is where the largest number of his works were produced. At least 300 editions of lithographs have been printed of his works, all produced by the artist himself in workshops in Paris and Cannes. Click to see them all.

Estivalet delights with Provence landscapes

New works have arrived by master artist Elisabeth Estivalet, who is collected worldwide. Provence 's rolling farmlands, sun-drenched coasts and looming valleys have always been a source of inspiration to the great painters. Originally a native of Poland Elisabeth Estivalet fell in love with Provence when she settled there in the late 1970's. Though Estivalet holds degrees in both Economics and Philosophy, the countryside of Provence elicited from her a natural artistic talent, and she instinctively embarked on a passionate and lifelong career as an artist. Painting solely with a palette knife, Elisabeth Estivalet taught herself to master the techniques of color management, perspective and composition. Kaprielian: Parisian Beaches to Paris

New impressionist pictures have come in by Yetvart Kaprielian, noted artist collected worlwide. The waterside communities in Kaprielian's paintings are a balance of serenity and bustling activity. He so well captures quaint village life in a sophisticated and detailed way. Since 1984, Yetvart Kaprielian has regularly been shown in several salons in Paris and at exhibitions in France and abroad. Poppy Field by France's Dominique Dorie

Just came in, a darling little 11x11 Poppy fild by Dominique Dorie. Dominique Dorié was born in Versailles in 1958. At the age of sixteen he began working in the Louvre in a conservation capacity as a restorer of sculptures. Dominique Dorie enjoyed the opportunities his location presented him, most especially, the chance to study the many masterpieces hanging on the walls of the great museum. Although Dominique Dorié had little free time, he felt compelled to sketch.

Kerfily's Mediterranean Color Harmonies

New works are here by French Impressionist Kerfily. Inspired by the Mediterranean, the South of France, Corsica, and Greece, Kerfily's enthusiasm for his art is fully evident in his windswept seascapes and timeless, sun-dappled village scenes. Mini French Art show 6-9 Sat @ Villa Gourmet; Music, Wine, Cheese; Tapas from Basque Bistro

A free exhibit of French art from the Westport River Gallery in Westport, is underway at the Villa Gourmet, 11 River St., Milford. Kickoff is 6-9 pm Saturday Sept. 17. The exhibit, which runs through December, includes art by internationally-rated French artists including Jean-Pierre Dubord, Dominique Dorie, Elisabeth Estivalet, Henri Lapetit, Corinne Vilcaz, Jacqueline Duvoisin, Kerfily and others. Located in downtown Milford, the Villa Gourmet is a specialty food store featuring French and other imported gourmet foods and cheeses.

Focus on Fairfield by Lapetit

A variety of new works by Henri Lapetit of Fairfield, Connecticut has arrived and is not even framed yet. Art has always had a dominant place in his life and this natural talent means that from the early age of 16 he paid for many of his world trips by painting and selling his works en route. Human Dignity by René Dessainte of Belgium

René Dessainte of Belgium captures the essence of each and every human being he paints. Lepetit Delights with French Landscapes

Saint Tropez, Provence and even Fairfield, Connecticut reflect the latest unique works by European Artist Henri Lepetit. Born in Brussels in 1956 Henri Lepetit is almost larger then life, an Indiana Jones character who seems to have done everything, from bagging spitting cobras in the Ivory Coast when he was only 13 to fighting in a Squadron of the S.A.S! His new works in the Westport River Gallery are landscapes, market scenes, and Paris. Westport River Gallery has many paintings by Lepetit.

Westport Party for Kate & Prince William

Plans are afoot for a special breakfast April 29 with English tea (and coffee), scones and Champagne as we watch the royal wedding at the Westport River Gallery. Cost is $15 pp, $25 per couple. Old World Florals by Florian Grass

On the way are unique painting by Florian Grass, who comes from a well-known artist family in Germany. Grass' highly detailed realist paintings resemble 17th Century Old Master Work. His artistic interest began at the young age of 9. Florian Grass is the youngest of three sons of Hans Grass, a famous painter of European flowers and winter scenes. Florian enjoyed his childhood in his father's studio, being surrounded by paint boxes, paints, brushes & varnish. He learned very quick and early in his life about nature, flowers and how to best capture them on canvas. Impressionistic World of Jean-Claude Duteil

The Westport River Gallery has several new pictures available by French Impressionist Jean-Claude Duteil, who was born on the banks of Seine in 1950 to a family very much involved in the arts. His father was the Chief Restorator at the Louvre in Paris and his grandfather was the well-known Naif artist Camille Bombois. Jean-Claude Duteil was interested in the arts at an early age and began painting at 13, launching his debut exhibit in Paris shortly thereafter, Duteil maintains the fundamental traditions developed by the Impressionists, dedicating his time to the natural study of shifting light upon land and sea. French Seascapes by Dominique Dorie

Vibrant Colors by Vilcaz for the Holidays

New works on the way to the Westport River Gallery by French Artist Corinne Vilcaz, who creates colorful, vibrant, and dynamic imagery resulting in unique masterpieces. Working in the Batch and Garonne regions of France, Vilcaz is greatly inspired by her colorful, artistic surroundings. Her works on canvas reflect her perspective on the essence of nature. Ltd Viewing of Lelia Pissarro's Monet's House

Westport River Gallery has a premiere oil painting available from Lelia Pissarro, entitled Monet's House. It is 26x32, with a wood gold frame, located offsite and available for viewing for serious buyers only.  Lelia Pissarro's Impressionist works hail back to a time when great grandfather Camille Pissarro fathered the Impressionist movement. Lélia, born in Paris in 1963, is the daughter of H. Claude Pissaro and grand-daughter of Paulémile. As a child she lived in Normandy with her grandparents and was taught to draw and paint by her grandfather Paulemile Pissarro. Paulemile's godfather was Claude Monet. He travels throughout the Ile-de-France, Normandy, Brittany, Provence, and the riverbanks of Seine. Kaprielian expresses through touches of luminous and sparkling colors a harmony of reflections. Nadine Lecomte's New Soft Florals

Nadine Lecomte has a unique technique, creating soft and colorful works featuring her native Brittany. Later, when she began painting in oil, vibrant images of Provence and Africa became the primary subjects of her work. Since 1993, she has exhibited her paintings predominantly in Brittany, Provence, Paris, China, New York and Westport. Her work is bold, brash and can easily fit into any room, office or study.

Dec 4 Holiday Show Features Art & Music

Enjoy some wine, a lovely harpist playing traditional tunes to “Stairway to Heaven,” speak with American artists, and appreciate the new French and British art art by Dorie, Dubord, Kaprielian, Lecompte, Wilkinson (see pugs). One new set of works is also from a master floral artist from Germany (see 16x12 below). Artists Vitello, Zider, Brown, and Sage will be in attendance. Time 6-9 pm.

Grass' Master Floral Works Underway for Show

On the way next month are several unque painting by Florian Grass, a floral still life painter, who  comes from a well-known artist family in Germany. Grass' highly detailed realist paintings resemble 17th Century Old Master Work. He trained at the Academy of Kaufbeuren, Germany and studied Realist painting at the University of Munich. He exhibits frequently at such places as Salzburg, Zurich, Nice, Venice, Berlin, as well as Munich, and his works can be found in galleries throughout Germany. His oils reflect works many years past, and include intricate floral nuances in red, yellow, white, red, blue and green. At right is a 16x12.

 

Scottish, English Seascapes by Stanley Andrews

Five oil paintings are now available by the late Stanley Andrews, who comes to the Westport River Gallery in Connecticut, from England. He had been a member of the Royal Society of Marine Artists for many years. He had exhibited widely in the Midlands and South of England, including the Singer and Friedlander Watercolor Exhibition and the Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolor. He also taught many classes in painting, influencing the next generation of English painters.

Retriever, Pugs by Sporting Artist Henry Wilkinson

Several new ethings just came in from England. British artist Henry Wilkinson works alone in his studio and workshop in rural Kent, still producing his limited editions entirely single-handed. From origination, to hand engraving his metal plates and eventually printing and finishing the editions, the work is entirely his own. He even produces his own printing inks.

Lithographs by Andre Bourrie Available

Several new signed. limited edition (125 only) lithographs are on the way to the Westport River Gallery by famed French artist Andre Bourrie, known for magnificent paintings of the French countryside and sea. His works are acclaimed for their brilliant use of sundrenched, white light and rich, iridescent palette. His paintings are in collections worldwife. Here is Courtain Marin, 18x22.

Provence Highlighted by new Dorie Oils

Several new original oils have arrived at the Westport River Gallery from the studio of Dominique Dorie, including the 12x12 at left. Click for others available. Dominique Dorié was born in Versailles in 1958. At the age of 16 he began working in the Louvre in a conservation capacity as a restorer of sculptures. Dominique Dorie enjoyed the opportunities his location presented him, most especially, the chance to study the many masterpieces hanging on the walls of the great museum.

Everyday Life With a Fanciful Twist by Jan Balet

Jan Balet was born in Bremen, Germany in 1913. After receiving an education, Ballet settled in America in 1938. Jan Balet’s works are cited in articles and books worldwide. His works depict the joys in life as well as the irony and mystery that surround our daily experiences with a tad of fanciful lightness. Westport River Gallery in Westport, Connecticut has several signed lithographs by Jan Balet. Each is 20x24 and among only 300 created in the 1980s. Lelia Pissarro in Camille's Footsteps

Lelia Pissarro's Impressionist works hail back to a time when great grandfather Camille Pissarro fathered the Impressionist movement. Lélia, born in Paris in 1963, is the daughter of H. Claude Pissaro and grand-daughter of Paulémile. As a child she lived in Normandy with her grandparents and was taught to draw and paint by her grandfather Paulemile Pissarro, and at the age of 5 she sold her first canvas to NY art dealer Wally Findlay. The Fauvist Colors of Jean Claude Tron

French artist Jean Claude Tron is passionate about the southern region of France, Provence, which remains his source of inspiration (this is also true of many artists, including Elisabeth Estivalet). The extravagance of the colors he uses betrays the influence of Fauvist Expressionism, with brilliant yellow, deep blues, strong reds, shades of violet and vivid green. His canvases are characterized by simplicity of form which represents the natural order of the countryside, while the thickly applied blocks of color make the fields vibrate with light.
